Transmission
Problems
Wheel
movement gives the movement to the whole vehicle and the
wheels move when the power is transmitted to them from
engine through a device known as transmission unit. The cars
getting power in front wheels is a front wheel drive and
those getting power in back wheels are back wheel drive,
whereas, if the power is transmitted to all the four wheels,
we call that car as 4WD.
The vehicle can be
manual or automatic with the former having the clutch, break
and accelerator and the later having only a brake and
accelerator. There is no clutch because there are no gears
and the vehicle performs this function internally
(automatically) and there is no need of manual operation.
Similarly, the transmission problems can also be manual or
automatic. If the car has manual operation facility it will
face manual transmission issues which can be easily
identified if any of the three components clutch, break and
accelerator are not functioning properly. For example, you
may notice that your car’s gears are not shifting swiftly
which is due to the problem with transmission unit and it
can be rectified by visiting an authorized mechanic. For
automatic cars it’s not that easy to identify transmission
issues because here the problem is related to mechanical,
electronic and hydraulic components which need to work in
proper coordination to keep the car working well. As these
components work internally thus their defects can’t be
identified at first place and hence the repair is also
costly.
Other Transmission
Problems:
Other than these
following are a few more transmission problems and their
causes:
- Gear stucking
and transmission slipping in between the gears may be
due to internal transmission breakage. This may also be
due to the problem with computer or sensor linkages
which may also be broken. Hence proper identification
and rectification is required to make sure the problem
is being corrected.
- Noise-Making
Transmission which may be producing clunks or buzzes is
due to the inner problems with transmission. This
problem can be rectified by replacing or replacing the
transmission.
- There are many
places in a transmission unit that can leak and cause
trouble. There is a pan below the transmission which
can leak and create problem. It simply needs gasket
replacement whereas if the pan has become totally
covered or wrapped there is a need to replace both the
pan and the gasket.
- Transmission
slippage may result in car stoppage. It makes the car
unable to move. If this is the case there could be
three possible reasons. Either the transmission fluid
level is low which is causing transmission slippage and
the vehicle is unable to move or it may happen due to
the trouble creating torque converter. Third reason
could be bad clutches as well. So identify the problem
and take the remedies accordingly.
Once transmission problem is identified in
the vehicle it is better to take immediate action because
prolonging the remedy may result in expensive and costly
solution later on.
